Many know of the AR-10, the predecessor to the AR-15. Calibrated to use larger ammunition, the AR-10 used roughly the same ammo as the service rifle at the time, the M1 Garand. This was the 30 Government 06, or more commonly known 30.06 or thirty aught six. In metric, this is 7.62x63mm. It could also use the .308 Winchester or 7.62x51mm NATO.
The AR-30 came later and was designed for .308 Winchester, .300 Winchester Magnum, and .338 Lapua. The AR-30 was designed in the early 2000s and available to own in 2003. It is a bolt action rifle weighing around 10 to 13 pounds empty. The magazines are 5 rounds which are great for what this rifle is often used for. The AR-30 excels at making accurate, long distance shots with a good mid-sized caliber. Great for match shooting as well as hunting.
The new version is perhaps predictably called the AR-30A1. It does not use .308 Winchester, which is not too big of a deal since the LR-308 is around and a very popular rifle that does use .308 Winchester. It is the .300 Winchester Magnum and .338 Lapua Magnum.
