Glocks might be the most popular pistols in the world. Introduced in 1982 with the Glock 17, this pistol had some great features including its most defining feature, the striker-fired system. It’s also easy to use with a low 5-pound trigger pull, compared to the up to 12-pound pull you might find in many other pistols. Glocks are designed so that all you need to do to shoot is press the trigger. They also have a longer range than many of its competitors and are accurate to these long ranges.
Part of the reason that Glock is so popular is because of its wide acceptance in U.S. paramilitary agencies including customs and border protection, and most major law enforcement centers in the U.S. It was this fast acceptance that drove much of its popularity, as soon as the professionals were on board, everyone else followed. That was back in the 80s and to this day the Glock continues to be the best pistol for the job out there.
Glocks are very durable due to their simple, superior design. Yet there are a lot of designs out there. Glocks may be the pistol version of the AR-15 in the sense that there are so many modular variations of them. Subjected to extreme conditions such as well below freezing temperatures and being submerged in the deep sea, these great guns did well. They are well balanced and do not have excess bulk or weight.
The different models of Glocks give you the different variations that you are looking for in a pistol. The original Glock, the 17, is a great pistol, and the first one to have the striker-fired system. The Glock 19 came out later and was smaller. Many prefer these for concealed carry though it’s also very popular with those who do not conceal carry like law enforcement. The Glock 34 is the largest of these, the three types that we carry. 34 is what you use when performance is the most important factor. It’s one of the best guns for competition platforms. This is also a popular gun with SWAT teams and the more military of the paramilitary. The reason for this is its size as well-balanced yet still light weight. The length of the sightline you get down the long slide can help accuracy. The 35 (Gen 4) has the same dimensions as the 34 but it fires 40 Caliber. It shares pretty much all of the advantages that the 34 has and might be even more of a battle pistol with its higher caliber. The Glock 23 is identical in size dimension to the 19 but with the higher .40 caliber. It is a good compromise between a smaller pistol and a larger caliber. For that reason, it also sees a lot of action in the service of law enforcement.
Glocks come in all kinds of variations numbered from 17 all the way to at least 43. With Glocks being the most popular handguns in the world right now, and with all of the different versions out there, maybe it’s time to get one, or another one.
