Freefloat handguards are made to cover the barrel and is securely connected to the upper receiver using a steel or aluminum barrel nut. Your handguard accomplishes an array of functional applications in an AR-15 build kit including protecting the shooter's hand from the hot barrel, offering the shooter plenty of space to hold the weapon for maximum control while firing, serving as the installation point for sights/optics, providing additional space for other accessories attached, and also, helping create the aesthetic that you want for your build.

It is recommended that your handguard completely cover the gas system of the AR-15, so please take your gas system length into account when choosing a handguard.
